Parents protest reassignment
Although two members of the Nash-Rocky Mount Schools (N-RMS) Board of Education would like to table redistricting Red Oak and Swift Creek elementary schools, the rest of the board indicated that they would like to know more about the details and data before making any decision. County denies Leon's Barn
Leon's Barn will have to cease operations after Nash County's Board of Commissioners denied a rezoning request Monday morning.

The request was first brought before the board in December, when owner Leon Shearin requested a public hearing before the board after the Planning Board voted 5-2 to deny the request. The board granted the hearing for their January meeting.  More ...

Nashville BPW plans 29th Opry
After a year-long hiatus, Nashville's Opry will make its 29th debut January 27 at the Nash County Agriculture Center.

Sponsored by the Nashville Business and Professional Women (BPW) this year's Opry will be dedicated to Ms. Elsie Clark, who passed away last January. Clark was one of the founding members of the Opry and was better known as Nashville's Minnie Pearl.  More ...

Grand jury indicts Vincent and Bowling
Mark Bowling and Rose Vincent were indicted by a grand jury on first degree murder charges Monday. If convicted, the two could face the death penalty.

Bowling and Vincent were each charged in the murder of Bowling's wife, Julie Bowling after her body was found in the couple's garage Friday, December 8 with multiple gunshot wounds.  More ...

Castalia council to hold community workshops
Castalia Mayor Ellene Leonard and Planning Board Chairman Ola Bobbitt are in the process of inviting Castalia citizens to participate in a series of community workshops to discuss a new "vision for the community." A letter announcing the workshops is currently being sent to all Castalia residents. Final details of the workshop plan were distributed to Castalia commissioners at the January 2 town meeting. More ...
