Knight found not guilty of assault
Rocky Mount City Councilman Andre Knight was found not guilty of assaulting a 70-year-old man, a District Court judge ruled last Thursday.
During testimony, Moore, who is disabled and uses a motorized scooter, said he confronted Knight following the hearing on December 8 and showed him an article in The Rocky Mount Telegram that referred to a meeting held on inequality issues within the school system. Moore said he asked Knight if he thought it was a conflict of interest because of his position on the Rocky Mount City Council. Moore said Knight responded, “No” and then asked, “Do you have a problem with that boy?” Moore said his last statement upset him so he attempted to rise from his motorized scooter. While in the process of getting up, Moore said Knight put his hand on his arm and pushed him back down in his scooter. After the incident, both Knight and Moore were escorted to their cars. Later, a warrant was taken out against Knight for assault.  More ...

I’m thankful that I was raised to be color blind
On Monday, as I attended a breakfast honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I began to think about my life over the past 28 years.
I’m fortunate because I never experienced segregation. I can’t say what it was like growing up in those times because I didn’t. There’s a lot of things I haven’t experienced in the world and I’m glad. If I had, I may not be the same person I am today.  More ...
