County approves property rezoning
Nash County Commissioners voted again to rezone a 146 acre tract of land on Hwy. 97 after nearly five hours of public hearing and deliberation at the board meeting Monday.  Commissioners rezoned the area to a General Industrial classification despite a recommendation by the Nash County Planning Board to deny the application.The rezoning was an attempt to correct a previous rezoning of the property which is now the subject of a lawsuit involving the City of Wilson and certain Nash County citizens. More ...

A Spring Hope man was arrested and charged with several commercial break-ins and the Nash County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the second suspect.
The Nash County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division conducted a search warrant last Monday, March 28 at 3304 Dalmar Road in Spring Hope after determining Jared Strickland and Dustin Crickmore were suspects in several commercial break-ins. More ...

Nashville discusses online tax payments
The Town of Nashville is considering whether to offer residents the option of paying their tax bills online.
A presentation was made to Town Council members at the regular board meeting on Tuesday night. Kevin Kollegger, of RBC-Moneris Solutions and Bill Barry, of CSI Technology Outfitters, made the presentation. MUSICAL PETTING ZOO
Nashville Elementary School hosted a musical petting zoo on Thursday, March 31. Prior to the event, students learned the different families of instruments and then got a chance to come out last week to look at all the instruments and in some cases, try their hand at them. Volunteers from local high schools were on hand to help. 4-H Livestock Show and Sale starts April 13th
The 74th annual Eastern Carolina 4-H Livestock Show and Sale will be a little different than in year’s past.
This year’s event will feature a Celebrity Showmanship Contest, where local celebrities will try their hand at showing goats.

Local Operation Medicine Drop proves to be successful
The Nash County Sheriff’s Office collected close to 33,000 dosage units of medicine recently during Operation: Medicine Drop.
Operation: Medicine Drop is a statewide pill take-back effort in which citizens are encouraged to bring in their old  and/or unused medications to be properly disposed of. Locally, the operation was a partnership between the Sheriff’s Office and Ward Drug Company.

Red Oak gains sewer, lights
The Town of Red Oak now officially has sewer services and should have park lights installed within the week. These two projects are the result of more than four years of effort and roughly 2 million dollars in combined costs.
Mayor Alfred Wester announced  Monday that sewer services for the town officially started on March 8 and that the town currently has four customers, including the two area schools, Ennis Park, and the Red Oak Baptist Church. More ...

Fire burns 25 acres at landfill
An early afternoon fire at a landfill burned close to 25 acres on Monday. 
According to Chris Bissette, Nash County Fire Marshal, the fire started around 3:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon on Watson Seed Farm Road at Johnson’s Landfill. Bissette said it appears there was stuff dumped in the landfill pile that caught fire and spread. More ...

Puppies and kittens are dying at the Nash County Animal Shelter.  Sure, they are dying by humane injection, but the fact of life is they are dying.  The gas chamber is not used for babies but dead is dead.  It is not the fault of the Nash County Animal Shelter staff.  It is the fault of people with pets that aren’t fixed.   People without their pets fixed also have to worry about their pets roaming in search of love, plus a whole lot more. More ...

STANHOPE -- Both Southern Nash and Nash Central entered Monday’s action looking for their initial girls soccer victories of the Big East Conference schedule this spring.
But Mother Nature ended up being the real winner, as heavy, consistent winds plagued the progression of play.

Rain hampers Central softballers
ROCKY MOUNT -- Rain, Rain go away. 
That was the cry last week as two games fell victim to the rain for the Nash Central Lady Bulldogs softball team. 
Nash Central did get in one game at Rocky Mount and were able to make up a home game with Wilson Fike this Monday.
Last Tuesday, the Bulldogs visited Rocky Mount and overpowered the Gryphons 19-0 in a five-inning contest. More ...

The Lady Bulldogs from Winterville are currently 28-5 overall, including a 6-1 mark in Region X action. Pitt is the defending Region X regular season and tournament champion. STARS ON PARADE
The Hester, Moore and Tucker Attorneys Lady Stars softball travel team recently won the NCUSFA Swing Into Spring Tournament. The Lady Stars used good pitching, strong defense and timely hitting to post a 7-1 overall record for the tourney. During the event, the Lady Stars outscored opponents by a 51-21 margin. In the championship game, the Lady Stars used some late-inning heroics to defeat the Lake Country Crushers from Virginia.
