Residency challenge filed with BOE
Castalia Mayor Ellene Leonard has filed a formal challenge with the Nash County Board of Elections regarding the residency status of Castalia Commissioners Gus Sjoberg and Clarence Bender. NC DOT to replace Stony Creek Bridge
Nashville’s Town Council granted a right of way purchase from the Department of Transportation (DOT) that will pave the way for the Stony Creek Bridge to be replaced.
The action was taken at the board’s regular meeting last Tuesday night.
The Stony Creek Bridge, on First Street Extension, has been on the DOT’s replacement schedule for years. More ...

Womanless Pageant raises Relay funds
Spring Hope Elementary School hosted its fifth annual Womanless Pageant on Friday night. The school holds the pageant every year as one of its Relay for Life fundraisers. Suspect shoots himself during home invasion
The man who led Nash County Sheriff’s deputies on a vehicle chase last Wednesday night has been identified.
According to a press release, deputies were dispatched to a suspicious person in a vehicle call near the L&L Convenience Store in the Sandy Cross area around 11:45 p.m. on April 6. When the deputy pulled up to the vehicle, he saw a male subject with a ski mask and gloves on. More ...

Town of Nashville is asked to comment on proposed Sanderson Farms plant
The Town of Nashville was forwarded documentation from the Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments asking for comments on the proposed Sanderson Farms chicken processing plant that could be built on Highway 97 in Nash County.
The form was to give the town a chance to offer their opinions on the issue of Nash County expanding its wastewater collection system for the construction of the plant. More ...

No price increase for school meals next year
Meal prices for public school students will remain the same next school year, the same prices that have been in place for the last four years.
The Nash-Rocky Mount Schools (NRMS) board voted unanimously to approve the child nutrition budget at their meeting Monday night. NRMS students in grades pre-kindergarten through 12 pay $1 for breakfast; grades pre-k through five pay $1.75 for lunch; grades five through 12 pay $2 for lunch. Reduced price breakfasts cost 30 cents; lunch, 40 cents. More ...

Circus life is far from normal for animals
I would like to plead with those who “enjoy” the circus to PLEASE understand the abuse and torture those circus animals endure. Those animals are taken from their families out of their own environment and forced to “perform” for humans. They are “trained” by abusive methods. Babies are taken from their Moms, wild, majestic creatures are forced to live in cages their whole lives, elephants are tied with chains on their legs most of their lives. More ...
