Getting more personal for Memorial Day
It was chilly but not cold; the harsh February seemed partially shielded by the pines and other evergreens on the cemetery on the hill. It was late in the day, and the sun was casting a last, low angle of diffused light just under the trees – a reading light if you will – for the gravestones that had been in place for, in some cases a century or more. More ...

World Wide Web isn’t always the best choice
I’m happy to report that House Bill 472 was killed in the North Carolina House Government Committee  with a vote of 21-10. Nash County’s representative Jeff Collins voted no to this bill and should be commended for supporting the public’s right to know!
Had this bill passed, it would have taken the “public” out of public notices. Governments would have been allowed to post their public (legal) notices on their own websites rather than placing them in newspapers where folks can easily find them. More ...

We need to get out of the electricity business
On Saturday I read of another “feel good” position taken by our politicians and city leaders.  The general assembly is attempting to insure that public input is required prior to the electric utility rate being raised.  I thought this was already the case.  I have attended both City Council and Electricities Board meetings to discuss both. The bottom line is the debt will be serviced regardless of whether consumption stays flat or goes down, therefore your rates will continue to rise if more money is needed to service the debt. More ...

Actions that meant the most were the right ones
The military intelligence system has a list of top targets to eliminate in providing the world with security from terrorism. It is not the US  list only---- as terrorism effected far more then the USA.  But it is a list much like the list of Mafia members.   In a recent article it was suggested that people favored  wars against the Taliban and Al Quida felt justified at the death of Bin Laden.
