Charges have been upgraded for a teenager accused of cutting the throat of another in between classes at Southern Nash High School last week.
The suspect, whose name is not being released because of her age, is now being charged with attempted first degree murder. She was initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. She is 15 years old. More ...

Judge orders plaintiffs to pay over $25K in court fees
Attorneys for the City of Wilson and Southern Nash County and Wilson residents brought new evidence before Superior Court Judge Russell “Rusty” Duke, Jr. on Friday morning that they felt would be a “game changer” in the turn of events related to the recruitment of Sanderson Farms.
The new evidence, however, wasn’t enough to convince Judge Duke and he ruled in Nash County’s favor and asked that the plaintiffs pay over $25,000 to cover the legal fees spent preparing for the hearing. More ...

The Rocky Mount Kiwanis Club celebrated its first Builders Club along with the addition of two Key Clubs last week during a special charter luncheon.

Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin recently announced the arrests of Milton Scott Hooks, 67, of Rocky Mount; and James Lester Mangum, 64, of Tarboro.
