NRMS technology policies up for public review
The Nash-Rocky Mount Schools (NRMS) board approved the first reading of 13 technology policy updates at their meeting Monday night. These technology policy updates are up for review for the next 30 days, and the public is invited to review them on the system’s website, www.nrms.k12.nc.us
The policies will be up for final approval during the board’s February meeting. The policy committee met November 19 last year to formulate these updates, which are reviewed periodically by the NC School Boards Association. More ...

Larceny spirals into bomb scare at CVS
A reported shoplifting at Nashville’s CVS Pharmacy turned into quite a scare Monday as the suspect claimed to have explosives in a travel bag.
Nashville Police Chief Thomas Bashore released a statement after the incident reporting that the suspect, Walter S. Wright, 37, of Reading, Pennsylvania, had allegedly shoplifted allergy medicine from CVS Pharmacy at 101 W. Washington Street in downtown Nashville. More ...

Fire destroys home
The house of a Pilot firefighter’s parents burned to the ground Saturday, December 29 and  and two Nash County firefighters were injured battling the blaze.
The injuries were not believed to be life threatening, fire officials said.
According to Nash County officials, two residents escaped without injury before firefighters arrived about 10:50 a.m. on Saturday to battle the blaze at a home along old U.S. 64 near Worth Road outside Spring Hope. More ...

The Town of Spring Hope began the new year by updating appointments to its Planning Board and Revitalization Committee. However, there are slots on both committees that still need to be filled.

Nashville to erect new billboard advertising town
The Nashville Town Council approved plans for a billboard to be erected on Hwy. 64 West near Exit 230. The new sign is part of a larger advertising strategy that the town has planned. The move came at the first town meeting of the year which was held on January 3.
The sign will contain the slogan “A great place to live, work, and play.” Commissioners also voted to change the original designation on the sign from “the Town of Nashville” to “the Original Nashville.” More ...

Nash County approves rezoning
Nash County Commissioners met on Monday January 7 for the first board meeting of the year. At the board meeting, Nash County Commissioners approved the conditional use rezoning for two pieces of property. The first was an approximately 3 acres tract of land located at the intersection of  Macedonia Road and Wiggins Road in Spring Hope. The land was rezoned from A-1 Agricultural to GI-CU General Industrial Conditional Use for the expansion of an existing metal fabrication operation owned by Strickland Bros. Five arrests made in North Carolina equipment theft ring
Since early 2011, the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles License and Theft Bureau has worked with 19 eastern North Carolina law enforcement agencies to arrest five suspects believed to be involved in an equipment theft ring. Additional suspects are thought to be involved in similar organized activities within the state. More ...

Bridge closed on Old Spring Hope Road
The NC Department of Transportation has closed the bridge on Old Spring Hope Road over Sapony Creek near Momeyer in Nash County. The bridge will remain closed until early May, weather permitting.
The closure is necessary for crews with Fred Smith Co. of Raleigh to replace the bridge that was constructed in 1951 with a new bridge that meets current design standards. The new bridge will be approximately 50 feet longer and four feet wider than the current bridge. More ...
