Nashville town councilman passes away
Nashville Town Council Member Tommy Rogers passed away January 17, 2013 after a battle with cancer and other health issues. Rogers served on the town council for about eleven years, first from 1994-1997 and most recently from 2005 to the present. The 35th Annual Elsie Clark Memorial Nashville Opry is set for Saturday, Jan. 26 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Nash Arts Center in downtown Nashville.
The Opry began  in 1977 as a fund-raiser for cerebral palsy and was initially named the Grand Ole Opry but later changed its name to the Little Grand Ole Opry, or the Grand Ole Opry Jr., after the larger Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee threatened a lawsuit. More ...

NRMS teachers rate school system
Teachers graded the Nash-Rocky Mount Schools (NRMS) system’s working conditions in 2012 with a B (86.8) as a “good place to work and learn” overall, according to the NC Teacher Working Conditions (NCTWC) Survey. This compares to the slightly higher B (87) that teachers gave NRMS in 2010.

Sanderson Farms pays Nash over $1million
Sanderson Farms sent over $1 million to Nash County officials earlier this month in a letter from Bob Billingsley, Sanderson’s director of development and engineering, as compensation for costs incurred while attempting to bring its new plant to the county.
Nash County commissioner Robbie Davis announced Sanderson’s reimbursement at the board of commissioners’ annual retreat held Friday. More ...

THOMAS ISAAC ROGERS, JR.
Thomas Isaac Rogers, Jr., 69, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2013.  He was born in Wilson County January 20, 1943 to the late Thomas Isaac and Louise Barnes Rogers.  He served on the Nashville town council for eleven years and also served as a fireman and auxiliary policeman with the Town of Nashville.  He was also a baseball coach and a scout master.  Mr. Rogers was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rocky Mount where he served as an usher and a member of the American Legion.  He gave tirelessly of himself and never asked for anything.  Mr. Rogers loved everyone and never met a stranger.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father,  grandfather and great grandfather. More ...
