Luke's Word for the Week

So what's God up to in Nash County? Ever pondered this? What is it that the uncreated, Creator of the universe is doing here in our beautiful little county nestled on the fall line of the United States?
If we are a people who find cessationism false (meaning God has stopped working) then we most certainly are a people who believe God is up to something. That God is working, that God is moving, that God is saving, that God is loving, that God is redeeming, that God is resurrecting.

Have you ever had something that just wouldn't stop eating at you? I have recently and it's not a good feeling. I was consumed by what someone "wasn't" doing more than focusing in on the reasons I was doing what I was doing. I was letting someone harden my heart and make me bitter. I finally had to let it go and give it to hands that were stronger and more capable than mine. There are a lot of things in life I guess we just aren't supposed to understand; that's when we need to really let go and let God!

Ode to a sweet potato, the best time of the year

It is without a doubt, my favorite time of the year.
Fall is that time of year when we sleep better at night, there is a slight bite in the air and we can spend time outside without constantly swatting gnats (especially if you live in the southern end of the county).
Things that sting and bite have begun searching out places to winter down, or simply left their future progeny behind. Some folks break out the fire pit.

Nash County is very fortunate to have people like Retha Pappas, Mary Grace Daughtridge and Susan Baker - the three chairpersons who organized this year's event. These three ladies put a lot of time and energy into making sure the event was a huge success.

There is power in forgiveness

Dear Editor:
In the prayer that Jesus asks us to pray daily from St. Matthew, it reminds us that we are human and as such we are going to say, act, or do something that has a potential to hurt or offend others. Forgiveness is the greatest gift in our love walk and we can exercise it over and over. Each time we forgive someone who has hurt us, we accept the position to grow stronger in character and grace.
