Drug bust largest in Nash history

A traffic stop on Monday night on Interstate 95 in Nash County resulted in the largest seizure of heroin in Nash County history.
The Nash County Sheriff's Office Highway Interdiction Team seized close to four pounds of heroin after stopping the car, a black Cadillac passenger car at the 134 mile marker northbound on I-95.

Nash County okays budget with no tax increase

Nash County Commissioners approved the 2018-2019 fiscal year budget, totalling $93.9 million, last Monday following a public hearing.
The adopted budget totals $93,928,346 and is compared to the 2017-2018 original budget of $90,307,834.
"This represents a 4.01 percent increase over the FY 2017-2018 original budget," County Manager Zee Lamb explained.

Breeder visits hounds she donated to law enforcement

Tammy Bybee has donated over 100 bloodhound puppies to law enforcement and other agencies across the country.
Last week, Bybee got a chance to visit with two of the puppies she donated last year in Nash County.
Bybee is the founder of Just In Case Bloodhounds and has been donating the puppies for over 10 years now.

GRADUATION 2018

Over 1,000 seniors with Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools turned their tassells on Saturday, as they graduated from four area high schools.
Ceremonies were held at Southern Nash High School, Rocky Mount High School, Northern Nash High School and Nash Central High School.
Family, friends, teachers, board members and district administrators gathered to celebrate the success of the graduates.

Nash gears up for Bark for Life

Plans are coming together for the fifth annual Nash County Bark for Life.
This year's event will be held in Rocky Mount at Best Friend's Dog Park. The event is slated for September 29 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event will be held rain or shine.

Neighborhood Day is June 23

A local Nashville community is hosting a "Neighborhood Day" and inviting other communities to join in.
Nashville Neighborhood Day will be held on Saturday, June 23 from 12 until 5 p.m. at Glover Park.
Mary Richardson, one of the organizers for the event, grew up in the Brooklyn Community and said the event was created specifically for that community.

Locals named to 4-H Hall of Fame

Nash County 4-H inducted its latest Hall of Famers on Sunday during a special ice cream social.
Dan Cone, Dr. Diane Price Fleming and Jane Tyson were all announced as the 2018 Nash County 4-H Hall of Fame recipients.
Barbara Tyre, President of the Nash County 4-H Alumni and Friends group, read a poem called, "The Dash" by Linda Ellis before announcing the inductees.

Boice-Willis Clinic, a mutli-specialtiy, physicial-owned practice, celebrated the opening of its new Medical Center last Wednesday with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The brand new, two-story healthcare facility is located on a 3.74 acre property at 91 Enterprise Drive, on the corner of English Road and Enterprise Drive.

Projects prioritized for downtown district

Revamping Christmas decorations, planting trees and purchasing year-round banner flags in the downtown area were considered desired projects at the June 4th Municipal Service District (MSD) Advisory Board meeting, however dealing with last year's new LED Christmas decorations were labeled as the first priority.
Nashville's MSD projects are funded through tax dollars collected from property owners in the district. Around $32,000 is collected annually.

Money raised

Over $9,000 was raised for My Sister's House at a golf tournament hosted by ACDi on May 4th at Belmont Lake Golf Club. One hundred golfers participated in this year's event. In total, ACDi has raised over $45,000 for My Sister's House with this annual event. "We really appreciate ACDi supporting us each year through this golf tournament. It is a fun day for the golfers while raising much needed funds for our agency.

Sunday was the 13 year anniversary of the devastating fire which destroyed the 1954 church building. Through the grace of God, and with the help of many people, the present building was complete and dedicated on June 10, 2007- eleven years ago today. Thanks be to God for his multiple blessings upon us.
Sanctuary flowers were given by Kathy and Aubrey Farmer. The Adult Choir sang "Calvary Covers it All" under the direction of the Pastor.

USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) will accept nominations for county committee members beginning Friday, June 15, 2018.

Emma's faith and joy are quite amazing

School is officially out for the summer and over 1,000 students earned diplomas on Saturday during four graduation ceremonies, marking a new chapter of their life.
For these seniors, life is really just getting started and I'm sure lots of adventures await.

The sense of honor and ethics

Dear Editor: The State of NC has gone round on the issue of statues and awards. Culturally there are differences in appearances, values and certainly not in the skill or art form. It seems to be political and localized. Our children are less bias affected than we adults. The side that did the kind things: e.g. Save people from whippings, abuse, lack of education, and enhance their lives with personal freedoms was one side of the Civil War process.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Second-round Little Legaue baseball playoff action for the City of Rocky Mount saw old rivals Wesley Men and Chambliss & Rabil squaring off again, with this round going to the Wesley Men by a 6-1 count.

Carolina swept by WS Dash

ZEBULON -- Winston-Salem's Joel Booker delivered a go-ahead RBI double in the eleventh as the Dash finished off a three-game sweep of the homestanding Carolina Mudcats with an 11-inning 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Five County Stadium in a Class A Carolina League baseball contest.
Booker's run-scoring double in the 11th came against reliever Luke Barker and with two outs in what would prove to be the final inning of the game.
