Keel captured

Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone announced just after noon today that Diana Keel's husband, Lynn Keel, had been apprehended just before arriving in Tuscon, Arizona this morning.

Diana Keel of Nashville, 38, was reported missing on Saturday, March 9 by her daughter, who lives out of the area attending college. Her body was found off of Polks Hole Road, a few miles outside of Leggett, on Tuesday, March 12.

Diana's husband, Lynn Keel, was charged with first degree murder Friday afternoon, March 15 and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Keel was no longer found at his home or parent's home.

A massive search was launched by Nash County Sheriff's Office with numerous agencies in North Carolina as well as other states, offering assistance.

A tip came into the Nash County Sheriff's Office early Sunday morning. "The tip came in this morning and we worked with it and it ended up being very fruitful," said Stone.

Stone said Keel was arrested without incident by Arizona law enforcement and will be extradited back to Nash County Monday.

"A team will be leaving in the morning, along with my self, and will be in Tuscon by 9 a.m." said Stone.

A press released stated, "A traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Tucson, Arizona, 30 minutes from Benson, earlier this morning resulted in Rexford Lynn Keel, Jr. being taken into custody without incident. No statements were made by Keel, but there were many Wells Fargo receipts and a large sum of money with him."

"Keel is being taken to the Pima County Jail in Tucson, Arizona."

Stone said Keel put his head down when approached by law enforcement.

Keel's personal vehicles were seized by Nash County's Sheriff's Office. Keel left North Carolina on his parent's vehicle. Stone said there is no indication his parents willingly assisted Keel leaving the area.

Stone said the investigation has proven Diana Keel died from multiple stab wounds and that the speculations of a motive are still under investigation.

"My heart goes out to Diana Keel's family," said Stone, "My heart goes out to the son, 10 years-old, that's without a mother today and a father that's being detained in Tuscon, Arizona, and to the 18 year old daughter that's trying to further her education. What a traumatic experience, what a sad experience this is."
