The Nashville Junction is moving forward, as Nashville's Town Council voted in favor of an inducement agreement related to the project.
The inducement agreement will include a few changes, however, as Michael Hurt, of Hurt, LLC, agreed to donate the parking area, pavilion and grassy area back to the town once construction is complete.
The request was made by Councilwoman Kate Burns.

NC Governor Roy Cooper visited his hometown last Thursday to applaud a private-public partnership vaccine clinic hosted at Nashville's McDonald's in conjunction with the Nash County Health Department.
Nash County Health Director Bill Hill thanked everyone involved organizing the event and thanked Governor Cooper for his visit.

Nash County Manager Zee Lamb announced his upcoming retirement at the Board of Commissioners meeting Monday morning.
In his monthly report to the board, Lamb reflected on commissioner Mary Wells who recently passed away. "She told me at the last meeting that she was going to go out when I went out as manager. She was going to retire at the same time. Unfortunately, she didn't make it," he said.

In spite of a group of parents who fervently addressed the board for thousands in agreement to make masks optional this school year, the Nash County Board of Education voted 6-5 to make masks mandatory.
The six board members who voted in favor of making masks mandatory for all were Evelyn Bulluck, Sharonda Thomas Bulluck, Doneva Chavis, Reginald Silver, William Sharpe, and LaShawnda Washington.

Nashville's American Legion Post 110 recently honored two local men for their dedicated public service presenting both with state awards from The American Legion Department of North Carolina.
Since the Coronavirus halted the state convention, the awards were presented to Jamie Moss and Brandon Medina at Post 110's monthly meeting in July.
Jamie Moss, Battalion Chief at Nash County Emergency Services, was recognized as 2019 Emergency Medical Technician of the Year.

Nashville's Town Council quickly denied a request to give town employees a monetary incentive to get vaccinated for COVID-19.
Town Manager Randy Lansing presented the request to council members on Tuesday during the board's regular meeting.
In a memo to council, Lansing said "due to the resurgence of COVID-19 infections and many of town employees not being vaccinated for COVID, I propose the town consider a $500 incentive to employees to get vaccinated."

Nash County reinstated mask requirements as of 8 a.m. August 3rd for inside county buildings for both staff and visitors, vaccinated and non-vaccinated.
Nash Manager Zee Lamb said the county was following the latest guidelines released by the Center for Disease Control due to the new Delta Variant. Lamb said the school system was following suit as well as the community college.

Rocky Mount churches have joined to sponsor a COVID-19 vaccination clinic offering $25 cash cards for first dose vaccine recipients and their drivers (ages 18 and older).
The clinic will be held at Metropolitan Baptist Church, 1213 Leggett Rd. Rocky Mount, on Saturday Aug 7, 10-2 pm. Adult Drivers of teen vaccine recipients, ages 12-17, are also eligible for a cash card.

The Oak Level Ruritan Club was able to present two $1,000 scholarships during their meeting recently. Club Treasurer Roselle Tyson reported that due to COVID, the scholarships almost didn't happen but thanks to donations from club members, the scholarships continued. Noel Joyner (above) plans to attend the Alexander Paul Institute of Hair Design to study cosmetology. She is the daughter of Steve and Wanda Joyner.

During the second half of the Duke-UConn Final Four men's basketball game 17 years ago, I received a telephone call that any parent would dread. My sixteen-year-old daughter had been involved in a serious automobile accident. "You need to hurry", I was told.

I really liked that quote about writing because it is one of those profound things that can be said about songwriting, scripts, poetry, fiction or nonfiction.
I became a little less enthralled by it when I found out that a writer named Anais Nin was the best known for saying it. She wrote novels, short stories and essays, but is perhaps best known for having affairs with a lot of famous writers and creating a significant amount of erotica.

Tuesday night's eleventh hour compromise between the Town of Nashville and Nashville Junction developer Michael Hurt was certainly a nail biter.
If you've been following the Nashville Junction development from the beginning, you know there has been some controversy - but not about the project. Most people, including myself, are looking forward to seeing the Junction come to fruition. It'll most certainly be a welcomed project for Nashville.

THE KENNEDYS -- CRYSTAL AND ROBBIE

For Robbie Kennedy, being the Athletic Director at Southern Nash High School isn't just a job -- it's a true family affair.
Since Kennedy was promoted to the AD position back in 2007, he has constantly had his wife, Crystal, by his side -- and she helps with several aspects within the Firebirds' athletic department, including serving as a trainer.

STANHOPE -- Having a player or coach from Southern Nash High School taking place in a North Carolina East-West All-Star Game is nothing new -- with the last coming when SN's Robbie Kennedy was the head coach in the 2019 E-W Boys Basketball contest (and Firebird Darius Edmundson was a player).
But the 2022 Football showdown will provide a bit of a different scenario was Southern Nash head football coach Brian Batchelor will be traveling back to the prestigious event for a second time.

ROCKY MOUNT-- Veteran Nash Central High School football coach Chris Lee can only hope that the 2021 varsity season is a better one than the off-season.
The summer certainly wasn't kind to the Bulldogs as two of Lee's top offensive skill position returnees transferred to other schools. And most of Nash Central's workouts didn't feature enough players to have a full roster for drills.

The Mudcats tallied right away on 'Cats starter Josh Wolf in the first inning thanks to a two-RBI double off the bat of Zavier Warren.
