An industrial park in Nashville has been approved to receive a sewer extension.
Nashville's Town Council approved a construction contract with BCS Contractors, out of Spring Hope. The contract approved was for $68,850.
The extension will be for the West Nashville Commerce Park on Cooke Road.

At their meeting last week, the Nash County Board of Commissioners enabled the Nash County Detention Center addition project to move forward as they approved the preliminary findings resolution and the winning bidder. No one was present for the public hearing held before the commissioners' voted on the project.
Installment financing for the project will not exceed $14 million in principal, the resolution states.

Local judicial officials are preparing to pucker up all in the spirit of helping others.
The Nash County Sheriff's Office has recently held special events to raise money for the North Carolina Special Olympics and recently partnered with Nash County Judicial Officials and the Special Olympics of North Carolina to host a "Kiss the Goat" fundraiser.

Area churches and nonprofit organizations, along with resident Kyle Pritchard are organizing the Pig at the Depot BBQ Competition and Festival event. A portion of Railroad Street and Main Street in between North Pine and South Ash Street will be closed to accommodate all the festivities occurring.

Nashville's Police Department has partnered with the North Carolina Special Olympics to raise awareness and money.
Captain J.T. Winstead came before Nashville's Town Council last Tuesday to announce the partnership. Winstead said the North Carolina Special Olympics is one of the largest Special Olympics programs in the world, with over 40,000 registered athletes who train and compete in year-round programs in 20 different sports.

One of Franklin County's premier outdoor, farm-related events is no more.
Organizers of the Justice Community Antique Tractor, Car and Engine show announced this week that the event has been discontinued.
The event ran for 19 consecutive years until it was canceled last year because of the COVID pandemic.

Nash County Health Department Director Bill Hill reported Tuesday afternoon that new Coronavirus cases in Nash County had again more than doubled over the past week.
Four weeks ago Nash County reported 22 new cases over a seven-day period. The following week the number increased to 48, and 111 new cases last week.

The Nash County Public Schools (NCPS) board voted on 13 policies at their meeting last week, tabling 11 for public review for 30 days and approving two immediately.
The board unanimously approved two policies that they want to be in place before the school year begins, waiving the 30-day public review time given any new or amended policy. These two policies are the community use of facilities and the student promotion and accountability regulation.

NC Department of Health and Human Services released data Tuesday adfternoon reporting the largest single day jump in hospital ICU admissions since the beginning of the pandemic. Weekly COVID-19 hospitalizations among people ages 20-49 are at an all-time high.
ICU admissions related to COVID-19 jumped to 557 yesterday from 502 the day prior.

Nash County has been awarded $27,000 in grant funds to offer an Abandoned Manufactured Home Program beginning August 6, 2021.
The program will provide funds for the demolition, disposal, and recycling of up to 18 abandoned and dilapidated manufactured homes in Nash County.
The program will offer up to $1,500 to help owners remove single-wide homes and up to $2,500 to remove double-wide homes.

A press conference was held recently at the Nash County Sheriff's Office announcing the sentencing of a Princeville man who was found guilty as a member of the Halifax County multi-kilogram heroin trafficking organzation.

The Nash County Sheriff's Office arrested two people for drug possession both of whom have multiple pending charges in Nash County.
Lacey Jay Mills Gonzales of Rocky Mount was charged with possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia (white residue), possession of drug paraphernalia (marijuana residue).

FACTS: Animal Control Shelters are required by law, to take in all strays (found lost pets), all owner surrenders, and all animals seized by law enforcement due to cruelty. Unlike Rescues or private/charity operated shelters, the County Shelters can't say "no, I'm sorry we don't have (space, time, finances, etc.)" Once a pet is at a county Shelters, if it is a stray, they are required to keep at least three business days for the owner to reclaim.

Last week, I wrote about my daughter being seriously injured in a tragic automobile accident. Tori had eight bone fractures, six surgeries, and was in the hospital for three weeks. Two of her friends died. One of them was her best friend.

Knowing biblical principles is essential for living the Christian life as God desires. Perhaps the most important one to learn is to obey God and leave all the consequences to Him. And alongside it is another one that's very important--learn to wait upon God for His timing. Obeying the Lord doesn't just include doing what He desires, but doing it when He says and how He says.

Red Oak Baptist Church will have a Backpack Giveaway on Saturday, August 21 from 10:00 am - 11:30 am for those who need a little extra help with back-to-school supplies. On Sunday July 18, 2021 Nashville Boy Scout Troop 76 along with a group of leaders embarked on a journey to summer camp in Yanceyville. The camp was held at Camp Cherokee and was filled with fun activities and fellowship with other Scouts from across the state.

Last Friday and this past Monday, August 6 and 9, passed quietly as two more hot summer days in a hot summer.
I saw countless stories on the COVID-19 pandemic, which seems endless at this point, but no mention of the anniversaries of the atomic bomb drops that ended World War II 76 years ago.

I must say I was in absolute shock when Nash County Manger Zee Lamb recently made the announcement of his retirement which will take place the end of January of 2022. I really didn't see that one coming!
Zee has certainly been a fine example of exemplary leadership while at his post. He's never, that I've known, shown any partisanship while conducting county business and has done an outstanding job at building a unified effort through many ventures.

RED OAK -- As the dog days of summer continue to rage on throughout Eastern North Carolina, area high school football teams have begun hitting the practice fields to prep for the upcoming fall athletic season.
Looking to capitalize on a successful-yet-shortened spring season, Coach Andrew Fariss and his Northern Nash Knights are set to kick off their season at home on August 20 against SouthWest Edgecombe.

RED OAK -- At the beginning of Monday's practice session, Northern Nash football coach Andrew Farriss gathered his team into a circle for a discussion.
Under normal circumstances, Farriss would engage in a Lombardiesque speech designed to help his players get motivated and find the strength to make it through a practice in 92-degree heat.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Nash Central High School fell just short in its attempt to claim yet another Wells Fargo Conference Cup in the Eastern Plains Conference during the 2020-21 school year.
The Bulldogs were edged out by Farmville Central by a narrow 50-48.5 margin for the top spot in the EPC.

NASH COUNTY -- In the final year of the Big East Conference in its latest incarnation, the winner of the league's annual Wells Fargo Conference Cup standings was Wilson Fike High School.
The Golden Demons secured 153.5 total points to edge the 149 registered by the Southern Nash High School Firebirds.

ZEBULON - Felix Valerio matched a franchise record with four doubles, Mike Wilson hit a two-run home run and Zavier Warren, Noah Campbell and Darrien Miller each had three hits as the Carolina Mudcats' offense exploded for 20 hits in a 13-1 baseball series finale victory versus the Cannon Ballers on Sunday afternoon at Five County Stadium.

Greg Purcell has been selected as the new Art Curator for The Dunn Center at North Carolina Wesleyan College. Starting in August, he will be taking over the reins from Everett Adelman, current Wesleyan Art Professor, who will be retiring this summer. Adelman has filled this role since the opening of The Dunn Center in 1996.

The last 18 months have been challenging and annual events were postponed - again and again - but the 10th Enfield Fishing Creek Paddle will finally take place on Saturday, August 28, 2021.
The Downtown Enfield Restoration & Preservation (DERP) Association invites kayakers and canoe lovers to a morning of adventure and recreation. Participants will be navigating Fishing Creek, said to be one of North Carolina's secret treasures and the largest tributary of the Tar River.
