BUNN -- Two schools with new coaches -- competing in a newfangled league -- met Tuesday when Bunn entertained Northern Nash in an early-campaign Big East Conference boys tennis matchup.
But while the coaches are new, they are taking over programs that are on a much different arc in their respective building process.

Big East Tabs Swimmers

ROCKY MOUNT -- Two long-time familiar faces to the Nash County pool scene have been saluted as the Swimmers of the Year in the Big East Conference.
Nash Central High School's Lance Norris has been dominating area foes since he was a youth in the Nash Rec Swim Team organization.
As a senior this year, Norris was a two-event champion in the Big East before continuing his success at the regionals.

Southern Nash High School head coach Robbie Kennedy thinks his team has an opportunity to reach that lofty height -- if a few things fall into place as the season progresses.

Spellman selected by Canes

LOUISBURG -- Quinderra Spellman was announced Tuesday as the new head football coach at Louisburg College.
Spellman comes to Louisburg after 12 seasons on the North Carolina Wesleyan College coaching staff, where he served as assistant head coach for defensive line.
"We are excited about the hiring of Quinderra Spellman as our head football coach,'' said LC Athletic Director Mike Holloman.

NCWC wins on diamond

BALTIMORE, MD - The North Carolina Wesleyan College baseball team secured a 5-3 non-conference win over Cortland St. (NY) last Saturday morning in the first game of their Baltimore Invitational at Johns Hopkins University.
Wesleyan improved to 5-3 and went right back to action to battle M.I.T. on Saturday afternoon in the second game of the Invitational winning 7-0.

McDowell selected as Player of the Year

ROCKY MOUNT -- The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2021-22 All-Conference awards for men's basketball.
Individually, North Carolina Wesleyan's Damon McDowell was named Player of the Year, Mary Baldwin's Vernon Fraley earned Rookie of the Year, Maryville's Myles Rasnick collected Defensive Player of the Year and Averett's David Doino grabbed Coach of the Year honors.
