Firebirds Best Big East Foe LHS

STANHOPE -- Two teams with divergent building paths this spring met last Friday in a key Big East Conference baseball game.
And the Southern Nash Firebirds, who appear ready to contend for one of the prime spots in the always-competitive Big East, were able to secure a 9-2 home decision over the rebuilding Louisburg Warriors at the SNHS Baseball Field.

STANHOPE -- For a few minutes last Friday, the Bunn Ladycats played their spoiler defensive role -- one they have come close to mastering this season -- to near-perfection during their Big East Conference girls soccer showdown against league powerhouse Southern Nash.
Really, the Ladycats didn't have much of a choice as Southern Nash is loaded with firepower and the ability to maintain the majority of possession.

ROCKY MOUNT -- If you attend a sporting event at Nash Central High School -- regardless of which one -- chances are you are familiar with Caleb House.
When he isn't starring as an offensive lineman for the NCHS football squad, House can be found supporting his schoolmates at a variety of events.
But House's success at Nash Central isn't limited to athletics -- he is also a show choir member and is participating in a school play this spring.

Hadnott inks with Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT -- Spirit-filled Jaycie Hadnott wasn't ready to see her cheerleading career come to an end -- so the Nash Central High School senior has signed on for four years at North Carolina Wesleyan College.
Hadnott inked a letter-of-intent last week to join the NCWC cheer program as part of a ceremony at the NCHS Media Center.

NCWC earns two victories

BUENA VISTA, VA. -- The North Carolina Wesleyan College baseball team rolled to a series sweep of conference foe Southern Virginia University by ousting the hosts 7-0 in the first game last Saturday and then 12-5 in the second game.
Wesleyan improved to 10-8 on the season and 3-0 in the East Division. SVU fell to 3-6.

Mudcats announce new promotion

ZEBULON -- The Carolina Mudcats will black out the field with new alternate black game jerseys, and light up the night sky with post-game fireworks every Friday night at Five County Stadium this season.
The new "blackout" game jerseys are black in color with red numbers, "Carolina" scripted in red across the chest, and the Mudcats logo on the left sleeve.

Ewers sparks Hurricanes to a sweep

LOUISBURG -- The Louisburg College softball team competed in a double header at home this past Saturday and defeated Surry Community College in both Region X contests at the Sheilah R. Cotten Field.
In game one, Louisburg won 10-3. Southern Nash alum Carrigan Ewers was the starting pitcher and went 4 innings, striking out 6.

DASH-ing To A State Title

GREENSBORO -- The Down East Association of Sports for Homeschoolers (DASH) Middle School boys basketball team finished off a perfect season on February 26 in Greensboro with the NCHEAC State Championship title.
DASH made it to the NCHEAC State Championship by winning the NCHEAC East Regional Championship in Raleigh the previous weekend.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Entering one of its most important weeks of the season, Nash Central High School's girls soccer team was without one of its top performers during Tuesday's key home meeting with Roanoke Rapids.
Both NCHS and RR have hopes for a high finish in the competitive Big East Conference standings, and the visiting Yellow Jackets took a huge step toward that goal with a 5-1 victory over the homestanding Lady Bulldogs at the NC Soccer Complex.

NN Rallies For Win

RED OAK -- Franklinton was on the verge of pulling off a huge road baseball victory Tuesday -- but the homestanding Northern Nash Fighting Knights had other ideas.
The upstart Red Rams, who are hoping to make waves this spring in the competitive Big East Conference -- were just six outs away from toppling the Knights, who are considered to be one of the teams to beat in the tough league.
