Nash County Animal Friends' Notebook

Pets come into our lives to teach us about love. They depart to teach us about loss. A new pet never replaces an old pet, it merely expands the heart. If you have loved many pets, your heart is very big.
I know this for a fact. I have had many pets pass thru my home, both as fosters and as personal pets.

The power of the Holy Spirit

"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)
When we lived in Georgia, I attended a men's breakfast at my church. I really wanted to sleep in that morning, but something told me to get up and go.
It never registered with me that it was the Spirit that was telling me to get out of bed, but I realized afterwards that God had something to say that morning that he wanted me to hear.

However, it matters what we believe. The object of our faith is eternally important!

Zero waste is simply a bunch of garbage

This week I read a story about an "influencer" -- this is what society calls future cult leaders now -- who is leading a waste-free life and sharing it with the world on TikTok.
My "get off my lawn" screed about TikTok is coming soon, but let's stay focused. This is about someone who claims she doesn't waste anything.
A 24-year-old named Kennedy Hammond spoke about her "zero-waste bathroom" in a recent article in the newsletter about the news called "Morning Brew."

Steer clear of home repair scams

Summers can be a great time to make home repairs and improvements. But this summer, contractors may need to raise their prices to keep up with higher costs from supply chain issues and worker shortages. Reliable and trustworthy contractors will raise prices only as much as they need to. You need to be on the lookout for scammers who take advantage of the situation by charging high costs without cause or do shoddy, unreliable work that leaves you in the lurch.
