Parking violators could get the boot

The Town of Nashville is looking at giving parking violators the boot.
The Downtown Nashville Strong Advisory Board heard a presentation from Alton Modlin, of Country Road Booting, on another option for parking enforcement during their regular meeting on Monday.

Town seeks input for downtown

Citizen input is needed on ways to improve the Municipal Service District in Nashville.
A drop-by workshop will be held on Monday, August 29 from 3 until 7 p.m. at the Harold D. Cooley Library, 114 West Church Street, to receive ideas on how to improve the downtown area, particularly the area known as the Municipal Service District (MSD).

KANGAROO KISSES

PUCKER UP! Organizer Liz Cahoon, a Nash County Sherriff's Office (NCSO) deputy, said proceeds will go to the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics North Carolina. The kangaroo kiss raised $600. NCSO is currently ranked as number thirteen in the state for fundraising. Pictured above, District Court Judge Pell Cooper kisses the kangaroo as a runner up in the competition.

Castalia community day is Saturday

A Castalia resident has been given the ok to hold a community day in the town.
Cortney McCalston introduced the idea to the town's board of commissioners back in April.
He said he wanted to host a community day to bring awareness to violent crimes and to promote unity.

Church works to continue food program

A program organized by a local pastor and elementary school will help decrease the number of students in need of food over the weekend.
Pastor of New Life Temple Church James Scottt and Angela Grover, Spring Hope Elementary School counselor, team up annually to provide students with food through the Backpack Buddies program.

Suspect still at large after chase

A Middlesex man who Nash County authorities said fled from them on Sunday is still at large.
Nashville Police Department Chief J.T. Winstead said around 9 p.m. on August 21 an officer was patrolling the town when they noticed a vehicle with West Virginia tags that was involved in an ongoing investigation of counterfeit cash.

BACK 2 SCHOOL BASH

The Town of Nashville Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources held its Back 2 School Bash at the Nashville Farmers Market on August 19. Children participated in various activities including a scavenger hunt where they searched for vegetables. It was determined that over 1,200 people were in attendance.

Football field showcasing prayer

School has started back and that means Friday night high school football games are in full swing. The stands are full of students, families of the players, and school alumni.
When I was in school, one of the local pastors would always lead in prayer prior to the game. But since 1962, thanks to Madalyn Murray O'Hair, there have been numerous court rulings regarding the legality of prayer during school or at school events. Sadly, most rulings have gone against prayer.

Intersections: God and Life

The longer I live the more convinced I become that the natural man will do almost anything to dodge the full implications of the gospel. The gospel declares that Jesus Christ died to save men and women from the wages of sin.
The gospel states that Jesus Christ is the only way to God. The one who has not yet come to Christ begins to advance other ways of salvation and to argue in defense of the many non-Christian religions.

Castalia citizens offer input on future vision for town

The town of Castalia held an economic development workshop geared towards helping it grow and increasing more foot traffic.
The workshop was held on August 16 at Castalia Baptist Church.
Castalia Mayor James Alston, Town Clerk Marlita Thompson and members of the Castalia community were present.

Back to school doesn't mean what it used to

It has been a strange week.
For the first time in years, I did not have children to drive to school in the morning.
Other than a little over a year when our oldest played chauffeur, the school run in the morning and afternoon has been a constant since 2005.

Put trash where it belongs!

I walk around downtown quite a bit thanks to my co-pilot and "news hound" here at the paper.
July, a Labrador-Australian Heeler mixed breed, has been coming to work with me for 12 of his 13 years. I brought him to the office at first when he was a puppy to keep an eye on a medical condition but we both got quite used to the routine.
