The Town of Nashville's second fire station has hit a snag.
The town was recently notified that the Local Government Commission (LGC) will likely not approve the town borrowing money to build fire station two on leased land.
The town has already moved forward with the bidding process for construction of the project.

Spring Hope library to move this month

The Town of Spring Hope Library is set to move to the Spaulding Family Resource Center by the end of the month.
The town board during Monday's meeting unanimously approved a cooperative agreement with Spaulding in which the town will forgo certain property taxes and make improvements to the building in exchange for Spaulding housing the library.

Officials say take it easy during warm weather

Emergency officials are warning folks to take it easy in the summer sun.
After a pretty mild June, July is cranking out some scorchers, which is dangerous for people who work -- or play -- outside. It's hottest from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day.
"Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening," said Brent Fisher, assistant director of Nash County Emergency Services, Emergency Management, and Fire and Rescue Services.

Nash County Animal Friends' Notebook

DRAMA on Facebook happens when a dog or cat is euthanized at the Nash Shelter and people get emotional. Adoptable pets that we promoted to save. Sadly, some never come on the adoption floor due to their behavior. There is always sadness when this happens because we know why it does. TOO MANY INTAKES. By LAW, County Shelters CANNOT refuse strays or owner surrenders although they can suggest waiting until the Shelter is less crowded. We could hide the facts, but we believe in transparency.

Parents must team with schools to improve learning

Parents Must Team With Schools To Improve Learning
"Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child. The rod of correction will drive it far from him." (Proverbs 22:15)
I'm sure you are saying, "school just dismissed for the summer. Why are you talking about education now?" Maybe this devotion will encourage you to start thinking about these things and implementing changes in your home before school starts back in the fall.

We should just make it Independence week

You can never forget July 4th where I live -- people in my neck of the woods started shooting fireworks off on June 30.
It is an exciting time. We celebrate our independence from England, but it isn't exactly the true marker of the birth of our nation.
The Declaration of Independence was passed by Congress on July 2, ratified on July 4 and then had to be printed and sent to newspapers, posted publicly and read. It wasn't signed until August 2.

What's wrong with bringing back the past?

If you've found yourself in the area of the old Rocky Mount fairgrounds recently, and can recall some of the fun times it offered to families for many, many years -- I'm sure it saddens you as much as it does me to see the field of weeds wisping around the old site. You can still see the entrance way but that's about it.
The fair ceased several years back for many reasons. Wouldn't it be incredible to see something return to offer some of that same joy we knew as kids?
