Momeyer mulls ban on running dogs in town limits

MOMEYER - The issue of dog hunting within town boundaries has prompted a tabled decision by the Momeyer Town Council after resident complaints about hunters' vehicles on roadways causing safety concerns.
At the Nov. 13 Town Council meeting, Town Clerk Sheila Alford said she had been approached by several residents, who said that dog hunting inside town lines shouldn't be allowed because of irresponsible hunter behavior, particularly by those who park in residential areas while waiting for their dogs.

Brush fires heating up in Nash County

Dry conditions are resulting in brush fire calls for Nash County firefighters, with the largest to date occurring Nov. 6 on 15 acres on Rose Loop Road south of Nashville, which the fire, 10 acres in size, was not completely extinguished for days because of the topography, which included multiple stumps and logs, according to Nashville Asst. Fire Chief Jason Edwards. The fire was 10 acres in size.

NASH COUNTY - The ethics of hard work, doing for others, and taking joy in the great outdoors are the legacies of Mrs. Laure Jones of Little Easonburg, Nash County, as friends and family planned to celebrate her 100th birthday Nov. 12 at Union Hill Baptist Church.
Jones was born outside Nashville to Clara Leonard Yarborough and Henry Yarborough, one of four children to her parents but one of fifteen siblings total.

Nashville moves stage location at Junction site

NASHVILLE - The planned location of a music stage at The Nashville Junction has been changed after action Nov. 14 by the Nashville Town Council, but not without some public opposition and a divided Council vote.
Koy Worrell requested the location change from the southeast corner of the grassy area, where the stage would face towards the corner of Cross Street and Barnes Street, to the northeast area, closer to local houses but facing to the southwest and more towards the Farmers' Market.

Red Oak celebrates veterans

RED OAK - A crowd of over fifty, including Veterans from nearly all the branches of the military, gathered Nov. 11 at the W.B. Ennis Memorial Park for the Town of Red Oak Veterans Day Service.
Emceed by local resident Todd Winstead, a retired Marine, the 2 p.m. event started with an invocation by Pastor Tim Sauls of the Cavalry Chapel of Red Oak, whose prayer expressed "profound appreciation for the men and women of our military" for their sacrifices and asked for protection for all those serving today.

Spring Hope fills vacant town council seat

SPRING HOPE - The Town of Spring Hope Board of Commissioners is now fully-seated again, after a new Board member, Eric Gainey, was approved and sworn in Nov. 6.
Gainey took the spot that was left vacant after the Sept. 15 resignation of Tony Jeffreys and was a candidate for Commissioner in a previous election.

Red Oak Area Rotary receives official charter

RED OAK - The Red Oak Area Rotary (ROAR) Satellite Club celebrated its official chartering ceremony Nov. 9 at the Red Oak Community Building, with numerous friends and supporters welcomed to a Social prior to the pinning of members and presentations of the ROAR charter and special awards.
Attending and presenting were Rotary District 7720 Governor Anthony Santore from Oriental, Assistant Governor for Area 5 Anthony J. Engrassia, President of the Rotary Club of Rocky Mount Daryle L. Coppedge and President of the Nash Rocky Mount Rotary Club Shawn Lucas.

First Family Caregiver retreat held in Nashville

The first-ever Family Caregiver Retreat, a day of pampering, crafts, education and food, drew 35 registrants to the Nashville Ag Center Nov. 9. Sponsored by the Upper Coastal Plain Area Agency on Aging in partnership with the Nash County Senior Center, the 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. event was designed to give a bit of self-care to those who need it from the burdens of caring for others.

Secret late-night meeting changed everything

"Jesus answered and said to him, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God'." (John 3:3)
He appeared three times in the Bible. The first was that fateful night when under the cloak of darkness, he met with Jesus. It was a meeting that would change his life FOREVER! Nicodemus heard that he must be born again to go to heaven.

Intersections: God and Life

I'm sure we all have times when many thoughts overwhelm us. As I attempt to write this week's article, I want to speak to my readers about one of those: walking in God's presence.
The Bible reads, "Noah was a righteous man, blameless among his contemporaries; Noah walked with God." (Genesis 6:9, CSB) The Bible also tells us Enoch walked with God (Genesis 5:22) and many others walked with God and enjoyed an intimate relationship with Him.

It's good to slow down and smell the art

Recently, I had a doctor's appointment in the capital city. Between Raleigh traffic and the fact that one of my key medicines is in short supply (where are we, Russia?), I was a little stressed.
The trip from Nash County to Raleigh is 36 miles to the center of the city, according to the sign just down the road from my house. Depending on traffic, that can mean 45 minutes to a day and a half.

Wait, it's Thanksgiving?

How can it be that Thanksgiving is next week?
As tradition, the week before turkey day at a newspaper office is nothing short of immense organized chaos.
The Thanksgiving edition of The Graphic tends to be the largest edition of the year boasting lots of features, news and of course holiday advertising. This is the time of year merchants hopefully make up for slower times of the year.
