In 2004, I was the Durham County Manager in Durham, North Carolina. I had over 2,000 employees and oversaw a budget of over $600 million dollars.
One morning, I arrived at my office at 7:30 for another stress-filled day. As the morning wore on, I began to experience shortness of breath and tightness in my chest. I couldn't believe it. Could it be a heart attack?

Intersections: God and Life

When someone orders us to do something, or imposes an obligation, it is natural for us to ask two questions. The first question is, "Why should I?" and the second is, "Who says so?" The why and the authority behind the mandate are very important to the question of forgiveness.
To answer the question of why we should be forgiving people, let us look briefly at the teaching of Jesus in the New Testament. In Matthew's gospel, we read this account:

Holidays can get more complicated as we age

Thanksgiving and Christmas have always been my favorite holidays.
And, I've offended many -- mostly close family members -- by insisting both are independent. That means slowing down on those Christmas decorations before Turkey Day.
My mama could barely wait until the passing of Halloween before the tree and all the other trimmings came out of the attic.

Are we headed for the real version of Idiocracy?

Though it sounds like a science-fiction movie, it seems to me we may be quickly headed to an all-virtual experience for primary care.
Just recently, I've been told of in-hospital consults being done virtually. I guess small non-life threatening, or acute issues, can be handled in this fashion, but one of these consults was for a psychiatric evaluation which, in my opinion, should be an in-person visit.
Paying careful attention lately, I've noticed that major companies such as Amazon is now advertising on-demand virtual care under their newly created Amazon Clinic.
