EDWIN SPEIGHT DANIEL SR.
ELM CITY – Edwin Speight Daniel Sr., 92, retired Nash County farmer, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007. He was born Oct. 5, 1914, son of the late Samuel Speight Daniel and Fannie Vick Daniel. Mr. Daniel was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where he served as a treasurer and trustee for many years. He was a member of the Coopers Ruritan Club for more than 50 years and received the Ruritan National Foundation's highest honor for service to his club and community. With his interest in farming, he served on the Nash County Farm Bureau Board of Directors for more than 40 years. Mr. Daniel gardened extensively and was an accomplished woodworker.

The funeral, in celebration of his life, with the Rev. Douglas Billups officiating, was held on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Thomas-Yelverton at Evergreen. The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. on Monday night at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 5326 London Church Road, Elm City, NC 27822 or to the Edwin and Ruby Daniel Endowment, Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Duke University, Box 90341, Durham, NC 27708-0341.

Mr. Daniel was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Ruby Thompson Daniel, in 1985 and by his son, Edwin Speight Daniel Jr., in 2004. His sister, Julia Daniel Pridgen, and brothers, Samuel Stephen Daniel and John Wesley Daniel Sr., also preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, Larry Thompson Daniel, of the home and formally of Durham; daughter-in-law, Faye Tyson Daniel, of Elm City; sister, Edith Daniel Barrow, of Wilson; three grandsons, Samuel Stephen Daniel and Lee Tyson Daniel, of Elm City, and Edwin Speight Daniel III, and wife, Charlotte Bikle Daniel, and their children, Charlotte Parker Daniel and Edwin Speight Daniel IV, of Wilson.

Arrangements are by Thomas-Yelverton at Evergreen Memorial Park Funerals and Cremations, 2704 Nash Street North, Wilson, NC.
