OLIVER “BUM” JULIAN GREEN

NASHVILLE – Oliver “Bum” Julian Green, 79, died Saturday, June 16, 2007 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Nash County October 1, 1927. He served in the U. S. Navy World War II and retired from Burlington Industries of Rocky Mount and from The Sewing Source, Inc. in Spring Hope.

Mr. Green loved his family, his special pet dog, Frank and enjoyed planting and tending his garden every year. He also enjoyed grilling chickens for his family on weekends and on special occasions.

Mr. Green leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 59 years, Christine Land Green; four daughters, Janet Sload of Spring Hope, Judy Batchelor and husband Albert of Nashville, Joyce Neal and husband Jack of Nashville, Jo Anne Cooper and husband Mike of Nashville; grandsons, Chris Sload, James Sload and Keith Sload, all of Spring Hope, Brian Batchelor of Nashville Travis Edwards of Raleigh, Randy Edwards of Fuquay Varina; granddaughters, Lori Sload of Spring Hope, Stephanie Batchelor of New York, Jennifer Attkisson of Edenton, Tammy Perry of Oxford, Jackie Webb of Rocky Mount; great-grandchildren, Ty Sload, Maria Guerrero, Emma Sload, Batchelor Attkisson, Savannah Neal, Casey Webb, Layla Webb, Mercedes Perry, Marvin Hinton, Traven Pearce; sisters, Anna Mae Whittington, Susan M. Monroe And Sharon Crenshaw, all of Illinois, Mamie (Goody) McKinney of New Jersey and Mary Ester Cross of Missouri; special brother Herbert Moss of Nashville and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Green is preceded in death by his father William Edmond Green; mother, Lena Green Chambers and foster parents Aron and Lucy Moss, sister Bessie Schwartz and brothers Washington, Hubert, Clarence and James Green.

A gathering to celebrate his life was held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson Chapel of Nashville with Reverend Ron Hawley officiating. Burial followed in Oakdale Cemetery, Spring Hope. The family received friends 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel.

Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, 551 Macedonia Road, Spring Hope, N.C. 27882.

Johnson Chapel of Nashville is providing the professional services for the Green family.
