Janet Rose Matthews, 51, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, after a long battle of illness being surrounded by her family. Janet loved the outdoors, enjoyed long rides through the country, fishing, and anything to do with water. Janet was a huge Tar Heel fan and always believed in living life. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, John and Eloise Richardson, paternal grandparents, Alice Matthews and Horace G. Matthews, and her dear fur babies, Blaze and Katie.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her parents, James Alvin and Mary John Matthews; one brother, Tim Matthews and wife Kim; one sister, Beth Matthews and, one niece, Mara Caitlin Matthews; special aunt and uncle, H.G. and Mary Ann Matthews.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 6:30 PM at Cornerstone Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Byrd officiating. Visitation with family and friends will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Nash @ 2460 Curtis Ellis Drive, Rocky Mount NC 27804 and Nashville Baptist Church @512 E. Washington Street, Nashville, NC 27856.

Janet was fighter and we are blessed that she is no longer suffering; we shall see you again one day in heaven.
