Joy Gili of Carlyle

Joy Gili of Carlyle, Illinois passed away on Sunday, January 14, with her loving daughter by her side. Joy was born on March 10, 1934, in Breese, Illinois. She was the daughter of late theater owner Dominic Gili and businesswoman Erna Auge Gili.

Excelling in retail sales in her youth, she used her conversational skills to branch into radio and television, and she was the first woman to graduate from the broadcasting school she attended. Her love for children later lead Joy to teaching. Although her degree in English from Lindenwood College prompted positons as a High school speech and drama instructor. She only retired from teaching after having the opportunity to teach second grade. She rounded out her life as a homemaker and a foster for rescued cats. Joy loved her adopted home in Nashville, NC, but will be laid to rest next to her beloved father in Carlyle, Illinois.

Joy leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Celeste Jelie Owens of Keywest, Fl.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018, at 2:00 PM, St Mary Catholic Cemetery Carlyle, Illinois.

Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. You may share memories and condolences with the family by visiting www.wheelerwoodlief.com.
