Janet Abbott Poythress, age 82, of Rocky Mount, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Born in Henderson on June 24, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Wilton Hartwell Abbott and Hannah Harrell Abbott. She was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Edgar Dameron and Melvin Marks.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Edwin Braxton Poythress; her children, Michael Poythress of Castalia, Diana Zwilling (Gregg) of Wake Forest, Patricia Shumack (Don) of Nashville.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Hartwell Abbott (Marybell) of Henderson; sisters, Elizabeth Marks of Henderson, Diana Ross (Travis) of Henderson, Margret Dameron of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held Sunday, January 21, 2018 at 2:00 in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Donations may be made to Community Hospice in lieu of flowers.
