LISA ROBERTSON

LISA ROBERTSON

ASHEBORO - On the 24th day of September 2018, with her family and friends by her side, Lisa Rose Robertson left this world of extreme physical pain and entered eternity to join her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She endured a hard, courageous battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) {also known as Lou Gehrig's disease}.

Lisa was born to Macon Ray Robertson and Elaine Smith Robertson on December 1, 1959. Lisa was born in Halifax County and her family moved to Nashville, Nash County when she was two months old. Growing up, she was very active at the Nashville Baptist Church and was baptized on September 28, 1969. Lisa graduated from Northern Nash High School. She was also a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Lisa was a natural athlete growing up and then the epitome of a student-athlete high school and college. She was recognized for her excellence by such awards as the Mary Channing Coleman Award - given to the outstanding senior physical education major; the Susan Stout Scholarship Award - given to rising senior Physical Education major with the highest scholastic average for five semesters, whose personality, leadership and athletic achievements have been considered outstanding by the faculty; and her selection by teammates and coaches for numerous leadership positions on her basketball and softball teams. Following graduation from UNC-G, Lisa began her career as a teacher and coach for 20 years at South Asheboro Middle School and then 8 years at Asheboro High School. She also excelled in these rolls receiving numerous awards including 1993-1994 The Courier Tribune's Randolph County Coach of the year for Varsity Basketball, 1994-1995 Mid-Piedmont Softball Coach of the Year, and Lisa was recognized by the placement of a bench on campus in her honor and her 2018 induction into the Asheboro Sports Hall of Fame. Her teams also achieved success including 1993-1994 Conference Co-champs, Conference Tournament Champs, Sectional Champs, making it to the East Regional Semi-finals. Since the early onset of Title 9, Lisa has taken many opportunities to support other female athletes, including - believe it or not - Duke Women's Basketball and UNC Women's softball, as a counselor during summer camps. Lisa was also active in professional organizations including NBCT, 2011 President of NCAAHPERD NCAAE, a member of the Planning Committee of Randolph Sports Medicine Symposium, a lifetime member of the NC High School Coaches Association, a member of the NC Softball Coaches Association's Leadership team 2009-2010, 2012-2013, 2017 and she served as their chair 2011-2012.

Lisa is survived by her devoted mother Elaine, beloved "Diddy" Macon, brother Bradford Robertson, grandmother Helen B. Smith who Lisa gave credit for instilling in her a love of nature, hard work, the importance of family and faith, niece Lauren and nephew Luke who Lisa is so proud of, aunts Edwina S. Bridges of Darlington, NC, Gloria S. Overby of High Point, NC, and an uncle Bobby (Shirley) Smith of Darlington, NC, cousins Pamela (Gib) Harrison of Manteo, NC, Brandt (Lori) Clay of Enfield, NC, Candace (Blythe) Wall of High Point, NC, Wendell (Laura) Overby of Concord, NC, Bobbie Jo Smith of Hendersonville, NC, and Kirk Smith of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and numerous other cousins, and an incredibly vast network of friends drawn together by this remarkable woman. Lisa is predeceased by infant sister Lara Owens Robertson, uncles Jesse and Kaye Robertson, grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Mont Robertson and paternal grandfather Edward B. Smith.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2018, in the sanctuary at First United Methodist Church, 224 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, NC, with the Rev. Lynda Ferguson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Memorial donations in memory of Lisa can be made to the ALS Association of North Carolina Chapter, 4 N. Blunt Street, Suite 200, Raleigh, NC 27601 or go to www.als.org. You can also apply for a specialized plate to support ALS at http://webnc.alsa.org/site/PageNavigator/NC_6_driven_to_a_cure.html, download the form and send it to the address above, Attn: Chandra Green, or scan and email it to chandra@alsnc.org. ALS is a horrific and horrible terminal disease for now but we all hope a cure is on the horizon.

The family would like to thank Rev. Lynda Ferguson and her dedicated worship team from First United Methodist in Asheboro for their faithful ministering to Lisa during this difficult time. We would also like to thank Universal Healthcare of Ramseur and Hospice House of Asheboro for their compassion and care.

Condolences may be made online at www.ridgefuneralhome.com.
