ROCKY MOUNT – Basil Glenn Lewis, 72, of Rocky Mount, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2010. He was born in Edgecombe County to the late Robert R. and Effie Mae Lewis. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Douglas Lewis.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Taylor Lewis; his daughters, Debbie Sullivan and husband Chuck of Red Oak and Sherrie Brake and husband Rodney of Rocky Mount; sisters, Loretta Carothers and husband Ken of Rogers, Arkansas, Veronica Morrison and husband Lee of Rocky Mount, Marie Moore and husband George of Rocky Mount; brothers, Carroll Lewis of Rocky Mount, Robert Lewis, Jr. and wife Kathy of Rocky Mount, Leon Lewis and wife Evelyn of Rocky Mount; 2 grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.
The family received friends at the home. A private family graveside service was held for Basil with his nephew, Michael Watkins, Missionary to the Ukraine, officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8300 Health Park, Suite 10, Raleigh, NC 27615 or to Edgecombe Hospice, P.O. Box 100, Tarboro, NC 27886.
