Barbara Ann Cooper Matthews, 85, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017. Barbara was born in Nash County on Jan. 26, 1932 to the late W. D. 'Captain' and Bertha Whitley Cooper. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Matthews; son, Daniel Matthews; one grandson; and brothers, Clifton Cooper and Basil Cooper.

Survivors include her children, Ronnie Matthews and his wife, Gale, of Nashville, Glenn Matthews, Ann Wilmoth of Jonesville; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and sister, Audrey House.

Services were held Saturday, April 15 with Rev. Walt Cooper officiating at Cornerstone Funeral Home in Nashville. Burial followed at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Skill Creations, 811 Western Blvd., Tarboro, NC 27886 or The Salvation Army, Rocky Mount.
