After 10 years with Nashville’s Cooley Library, Melissa Mills is leaving to take a position with the Wilson County School System. Mills became the Library Director for Nashville’s Cooley Library in September 1999. During Mills’ time with the library, the facility has experienced substantial growth, so much so that a new facility was built on Church Street.

54.Gunfire leads to Nashville man's death
A Nashville man is dead after a shooting at a Castalia ball field early Sunday morning. According to Sheriff Dick Jenkins, a group of people were at Moore's Ball Field on Hedgepeth Road around 3:45 a.m. when an argument apparently broke out between 21-year-old Danny Weldon Richardson and several others. Jenkins said during the argument, 29-year-old Corey Tremaine Mills allegedly shot Richardson.

It seems that every time I turn on the news or open a newspaper there is another story about puppy mills in North Carolina.  In just 18 months, The Humane Society of the United States reports that they have been involved in ten puppy mill raids in North Carolina— more than any other state in the country.  It is a sad reputation for us.  But the good news is that we can do something about it.

72.Nashville man arrested for soliciting prostitution
A Nashville man was charged with soliciting prostitution after approaching a store employee and offering her money for sexual favors. According to Nashville Police Chief Bill Creech, the man, Dennis Earl Mills of Womble Road, approached a store employee of L&L Food Stores and followed her around the store making sexual remarks to her. Creech said Mills allegedly offered the woman $300. Later, the man said he’d give her whatever she wanted for “15 minutes of her time.”

A Spring Hope man was arrested last Tuesday after an ongoing investigation started by the Nash County Sheriff's Office revealed he was drug trafficking.Sean Jermaine Mills, 40, is charged with a slew of drug-related crimes in both Nash and Franklin counties in a process that was deemed as "Operation Drug Mill."He was determined to have been a main supplier of cocaine and methamphetamine in the Nashville, Spring Hope and Castalia areas of the county.

79.Major drug supplier sent to prison for 15 years
A Nash County man accused of being the chief supplier of cocaine and meth in Nashville, Spring Hope and Castalia has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.Sean Jermaine Mills, 41, was an armed drug trafficker with direct connections to Mexican cartels when authorities began to investigate him in mid 2020.Mills was arrested in May 2022 and pleaded guilty in federal court in November 2022 to conspiring to distribute methamphetamine, possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and possessing a firearm to further his drug trafficking activity, according to court records.

The event, which is free and open to the public, runs from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m and features a wide array of family-friendly entertainment to kick off the holiday season. WRAL Anchor Jeff Hogan will serve as emcee for the evening festivities.

THANKS for RESCUES! If Rescues were puppy mills, applications would be processed immediately, because mills are in it just for the money and want them sold quickly, so they can breed more! However, Rescues' first job is to find the best match, the best home for the dog (or cat) and to care for it. After all, they have invested not only donated funds but probably their own money, not even taking in account all the time needed to run to vets and take care of the pet.

Christopher and Marketa Evans of Graham are proud to announce the birth of twins, a boy, Mason Isaiah Evans, and a girl,  Madison Grace Evans, born September 14, 2009 at Greensboro Women’s Center in Greensboro. Mason Isaiah weighed 6 pounds, 1 ounce and Madison Grace weighed 4 pounds, 13 ounces.

88.Black Light Project begins banner unveilings in Rocky Mount
The Black Light Project has begun partnering with the city of Rocky Mount to unveil banners of subjects featured in the exhibit that has been displayed at the Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences. The first public banner was displayed Tuesday, June 23 on the Rocky Mount Mills campus."These portraits of Kyle Johnson and Yannick McLeod as well as the others that can be found throughout the community are a testament to the strength and beauty that is Rocky Mount," said Rocky Mount Mills Development Manager Evan Covington Chavez.

Spring Hope Commissioners approved an incentive program on Monday night that will hopefully encourage businesses to locate in town. Allen Barbee presented the incentive program to commissioners. Barbee said the Revitalization Committee had targeted five business sectors for the program.

In an effort to be more inclusive of the robust offerings throughout the area, the organization is expanding its brand.

Local men were hard at work Saturday at Cooley Manor, serving food and drinks to tables of women for the first ever Ladies Luncheon. The event, sponsored by the Friends of the Harold D.
