What exactly is grace?

Have you ever heard a Christian talk about "grace"? What actually is it?
The best definition for grace is "The Unmerited Favor Of God". John Piper, a Baptist pastor in Minnesota, takes grace one step farther. He said, "Grace is not simply leniency when we have sinned. Grace is the enabling gift of God not to sin. Grace is power, not just pardon." Indeed, we live through and by the grace of the Lord Jesus.

Concerns about food and other very American things

On the brink of our trip to Europe, I've hit the last minute paranoia, despite months of planning.
It occurred to me that food might be a concern on our travels to Ireland, England and Iceland. That's because I've never once seen an English, Irish, or Icelandic food restaurant in the United States.
But not once has a friend or family member said, "Let's go grab some English food for supper" or "Man, I could really go for some Irish food at lunch."

Has it really been 53 years ago since our hospital sprouted?

Our Backward Glances photos this week are from 53 years ago, however it really doesn't seem like that long ago Nash General Hospital opened its doors.
I recall, as a child, visiting the newly constructed hospital when my mother would visit with her father during a hospital stay. I remember being told I had to sit very quietly in the waiting area in the front lobby for a bit until she returned. Children nor young teens were not allowed upstairs. Visiting hours and rules were extremely strict.

Longtime council member should to be applauded for her service to Nashville

Dear editor: I am writing this letter in support of a dear friend. Well actually, she is not just a friend, but also a dedicated citizen of Nashville for many, many years. She sacrificially served as a town council member for 18 years. I say sacrificially, but she really didn't consider it a sacrifice - she loved serving and making the town better! I realized while attending some of the council meetings, that she was not just a council member who wanted to "take a seat" - so to speak.
