Mamie Smith Rose, 75, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2015. She was born in Nash County, on September 12, 1939 to the late Lummy Smith and Effie Harrell Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommie Rose; son, Jeffrey Thomas Rose; sister, Louise Pittman and brothers, John E. Smith, Roscoe Wayne Smith and Bart Smith.
She is survived by her son, Gary Lee Rose and wife, Wendy of Rocky Mount; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Coats, and her husband, John, Nellie Peele and her husband, Bill and Myrtle Strickland and husband, James of St Lewis, MO.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Entombment to follow service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mamie’s name to the American Heart Association, 3015 South Memorial Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.
