Joseph William Cockrell, age 63, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015. He was born in Nash County on April 12, 1951 to the late Dorsey Manuel Cockrell and Effie Stone Cockrell. In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by brothers, James Clee Cockrell and an infant brother.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Moss Cockrell; his daughter, Jennifer Cockrell of Nashville; his son, Jeffrey Cockrell and his wife, Elizabeth of Raleigh; two grandchildren; brothers, J.R. Cockrell and his wife, Joyce of Nashville, and Jimmy Cockrell and his wife, Sarah of Rocky Mount; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Simon and Velma Moss of Rocky Mount; brother-in-law Mike Moss and his wife, Jamie, of Rocky Mount.

A funeral service was held Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Burial followed the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
