ROCKY MOUNT – Durward Tyus, 93, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008. Funeral services and visitation were to be held today (Wednesday, Feb. 13) at 7 p.m. at Union Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 55 years, Ruth Jennings; a sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and Wilbur Chastain; a nephew, Richard Chastain; and brother-in-law, Dr. D.B. Bosworth.
Survivors include five daughters, Helen MacDonnell and husband Craig of Mesa, Ariz., Patricia Whiteside and husband Steve of Greenwood, Ind., Pamela Janes and husband Wayne of Raleigh, Kathryn Velez of Indianapolis, Ind., and Dee Dee Mitchell and husband Roger of Rocky Mount; one sister, Aline Bosworth of Cooper City, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in honor of Durward Tyus to Union Missionary Baptist Church, 9853 East NC 97, Rocky Mount, NC 27803.
