NASHVILLE - A 52-year-old Nashville man is hospitalized at Wake Med in stable condition with charges pending after he was wounded in an exchange of gunfire with two Nash County Sheriff's deputies late Sunday evening.
Keith Stone, Nash County Sheriff, held a press conference at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, about the incident, which involved James Breheim and two deputies, Sgt. Miguel Salazar and Lt. David Walker, at a home on the 2000 block of Reges Store Road, which is in a heavily-populated subdivision. Deputies responded just prior to midnight Sunday.

NASHVILLE - Nash County officials have laid their opening hand on the table, delivering a draft memorandum of agreement to Nash Arts regarding a potential partnership between the two entities.
The Nash Arts Council board, in turn, said its members will review the proposal and talk it over "to decide what is in the group's best interest" before getting back to the county with any decision.

NASHVILLE - There was no lack of smiles at Saturday's Annual Back to School Bash hosted by the Nash County Sheriff's Office, which drew a huge crowd and featured a number of family-friendly activities.
At least 15 Sheriff's Deputies manned a grill, booths, and various activities, cooking up 1,000 hot dogs and handing out book bags and other school items while upbeat music filled the parking lot.

NASHVILLE - An off-campus program to teach Bible education to public school students during school hours has been proposed for students at Nashville Elementary, although it has not been approved by Board of Education members.
Proponents of Lifewise Academy, whose website gives the program's location as Nashville, spoke at the Aug. 5 Board of Education meeting, relaying that the program is legal under a 1952 US Supreme Court ruling that release time during the day for religious instruction is permissible if the program is privately funded, parent-permitted and conducted off school property.

NASHVILLE - Close to 100 people packed Nash County's historical Superior Courtroom Thursday afternoon to show their love and appreciation for the Honorable Anthony "Tony" W. Brown, Nash District Court Judge, who is packing it in after twenty years to head for the wild West.
Brown, 72, who lives in Spring Hope with his wife of 35 years Betty Brown, is due to start his next job this week in Texas as a federal judge hearing immigration cases.

ROCKY MOUNT - Previously "dark" parts of rural Nash and Edgecombe counties lacking good internet connection may be getting more reliable service as Brightspeed is launching high-speed broadband connectivity along with offering discounts to teachers and students.
Governor Roy Cooper and U.S. Congressman Don Davis joined state and local leaders for a press conference at Rocky Mount High School Aug.14, as Brightspeed CEO Tom McGuire announced that more than 30,000 homes and businesses in the two counties had been connected.

Nashville area residents, particularly anyone on kidney dialysis or maintaining a fish tank, need to know that a change in the disinfection process for water coming from the city of Rocky Mount is happening now until about August 26th. Chlorine is being used as a disinfectant.
Nashville town officials got an email August 19 from Jim Connolly, Water Treatment Superintendent for Rocky Mount stating that a conversion from chloramines to chlorine would occur for a one-week period "to maintain the quality and safety of our water supply."

NASHVILLE - Nashville's Downtown Strong Advisory Board thinks it's a crying shame that no businesses have applied for the Façade Improvement Grant Program, and are taking steps to get the word out about it as well as expanding grant coverage.
Meeting Aug. 19th, board members decided to designate the first half of their upcoming Sept.16 gathering as an informational meeting for MSD property owners and tenants to explain what the grant covers and to encourage applications.

NASHVILLE - A Nashville 4H'er who is making headlines locally and in the state has been selected to represent North Carolina 4H at the National 4H conference in Georgia in November.
Paige Strickland, the daughter of Susanne and Glenn Strickland of Nashville and a rising Senior at Faith Christian School in Rocky Mount, addressed Nash County commissioners at their Aug. 5 meeting to share that and other news;

RED OAK - Red Oak town officials are getting pumped about the upcoming Ride of Honor November 8th & 9th, voting August 12 to donate $1,000 and also to "line the street" in support of riders as they pass through.
Red Oak is one of four Nash communities that motorcycle riders, mostly veterans, pass through on the yearly charity event, which raised over $21,000 last year in support of veterans.

NASHVILLE - A 35-year-old Rocky Mount man charged with first-degree murder for allegedly killing a man outside the Cummins Engine Plant last year is due to appear in Nash Superior Court Aug. 27.
Nikita Rajhon Hatch of 6696 Colleen Road is currently being held in the Nash Detention Center on $1,500,000 bond after being indicted Feb. 7, 2023, for the shooting death of 27-year-old Quentin Earl McNair Sr., of Nash County.
