COUNTY SWEEP

ROCKY MOUNT -- Southern Nash's boys and Nash Central's girls came up with team victories Monday at the annual Scott Jones Memorial Track and Field Classic.
The event was hosted by Nash Central at The Dawg Pound, and the Lady Bulldogs did not disappoint by racking up 136 points to easily outdistance the 87 tallies put up by runner-up Wilson Hunt at the 10-school meet.

TITLE AT STAKE

ROCKY MOUNT -- Nash Central High School found itself in the rare position of defending a league boys tennis champion this spring.
The Bulldogs roared to success back in 2018 in their initial season in the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference.
And with a solid core of returnees, including No. 1 singles star Cameron Johnson, the Bulldogs were expected to make another run at the EPC crown this time around.

STANHOPE -- Once a basketball-only standout at Southern Nash High School, Darius Edmundson will now concentrate on football on the next level.
Edmundson, a senior defensive back/wide receiver, has accepted an offer to join the gridiron program at nearby Louisburg College.
Edmundson finalized his decision as part of a signing ceremony last Wednesday at the SNHS Media Center.

Nash Central continues its crazy soccer season

ROCKY MOUNT -- Nash Central High School's crazy girls soccer season got even crazier last Thursday during an Eastern Plains Conference home match against the Farmville Central Lady Jaguars.
Central, under veteran head coach Ryan Ruiz, rolled to the Eastern Plains Conference Championship last spring, but lost stars such as Anna Shaye Thompson and Linzi Long to graduation.
