Nash waits for vaccine shipment

Nash County hopes to open up a call center next week that will provide updates on COVID-19 vaccinations.
The call center will allow residents to speak with an actual person and get information on when and where vaccinations will be taking place.
The announcement of the call center came on Monday afternoon during a COVID-19 update.

EMS faces COVID challenges

Nash County EMS personnel know the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic more than anyone.
Nash County Emergency Services Director Brian Brantley said that impact is something that will likely be felt for years to come.
Brantley, along with Scott Strufe, EMS Director for Nash County Emergency Services, provided information to Nash County Commissioners last month and again this month on the impact COVID is having on not only staff but equipment and the impact is great.

Parents plan to protest board vote

Some parents of students in the Nash County Public School System plan to protest a recent decision that further delayed in-person learning until March 22.
An event was initially planned for this past Saturday, January 23 but has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 6.
The event, "Let the Kids Learn in Person," will be held at 2 p.m. on the sidewalk in front of the Nash County Board of Education Central Office in Nashville.

Man shot on Hwy. 64

A Raleigh man was shot on Highway 64 after leaving a Nashville apartment complex last week.
Nashville Police Chief Anthony Puckett said Christopher Horne was at an apartment complex in Nashville just before 1 a.m. on Thursday, January 21. Horne and three others reportedly left the apartment and were traveling on Highway 64 West.

Nashville to file complaint against Suddenlink

The Town of Nashville plans to join in with other towns in expressing disapproval with service received from Suddenlink.
Complaints against the internet and cable provider were brought up by Town Manager Randy Lansing at council's meeting on January 19.
Lansing told council members that the Town of Tarboro had recently moved forward with sending a letter of complaint to the state's attorney general.

Those are the words of Rachel McClintock on how she was able to recently celebrate her 100th birthday.
McClintock celebrated her special day on January 16 at Brekenridge Retirement Center in Rocky Mount.

Tarboro man charged with death of unborn child, fleeing law enforcement

The Nash County Sheriff's Office has charged a Tarboro man with murder after an unborn baby was killed following an accident where the man was trying to flee.
James Dylan Harris, 26, was operating a tan GMC Yukon on January 9 in the area of Jeffrey's Road in Rocky Mount. The vehicle turned into the Circle K gas station when narcotics detectives were able to confirm it was Harris driving.

Red Cross urges blood donation

The American Red Cross typically has a tough time keeping the blood supply strong during the winter months when inclement weather and seasonal illnesses can impact donors. This year the pandemic adds in another challenge in keeping the blood supply strong. The Red Cross is urging healthy individuals to make an appointment to give blood or platelets this month.

Downtown committee aims to proceed with parking signs

Public parking signs in Downtown Nashville were again a topic of conversation for the Downtown Nashville Strong Advisory Board, which met on Monday afternoon. Only four of the nine committee members were present for Monday's meeting however Nashville Planner Sherry Moss said a quorum had been met.
Board members agreed to stick to a more simple design for the signs after receiving additional quotes on a more detailed sign at the request of Council Member and Advisory Board Member Kate Burns.

Nash County prepares for second dose clinics

The Nash County Health Department prepares for their upcoming second dose clinics. For the next few weeks, recipients of the COVID-19 vaccine will receive automated phone calls giving them instructions on how to receive their second dose. This includes second dose clinic information for everyone vaccinated at the January 7 drive-through event.

Nash County waives elective credit requirements for high school seniors

The Nash County Board of Education approved a waiver last week that will provide some flexibility for the class of 2021.
The board voted 9-2 to approve the waiver, which will offer high school principals the flexibility to allow students the opportunity to graduate with the North Carolina graduation requirements of 22 credits rather than the additional local elective requirement of 28 credits.

School board votes to delay opening schools

The Nash County Board of Education had a change of heart and reversed their decision on allowing K-12 students to return to in-person learning this week.
In an emergency meeting held last Thursday afternoon, January 21, board members voted 6-5 to extend the school system's opening until March 22.
Evelyn Bulluck made the motion and said she felt delaying the start of school until March 22 was the safest option.

UNC Health offers COVID-19 vaccination options

UNC Health has begun offering COVID-19 vaccination appointments in the Rocky Mount region, through Eastern North Carolina Medical Group. Per revised NC DHHS guidelines, the eligibility criteria to receive the COVID-19 vaccine have been expanded to incorporate a larger percentage of the state's population.

Edgecombe Community College announces President's List

Edgecombe Community College recently announced its President's List for the Fall 2020 semester. The following full-time students earned a 4.0 grade point average, placing them on the President's List.
Nashville residents named to the President's List include Matthew Joyner and Morgan Tyson.

Governor appoints superior court judge

Governor Roy Cooper has appointed William "Bill" Wolfe to serve as a Superior Court Judge in Judicial District 7C, serving Edgecombe and Wilson counties.
"Bill Wolfe's legal abilities are well known in this district that he has served for years and I am pleased he is willing to continue his service on the bench," Gov. Cooper said.

Governor appoints local man to board

Governor Roy Cooper has announced new appointments to boards and commissions across North Carolina. The appointments include a Rocky Mount man.
Larry W. McAdams was appointed to the North Carolina Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. McAdams is the Majority Partner and Founder in Express Employment Professionals in Rocky Mount, a temporary and permanent personnel placement business.

Chris Wallace of Fox News did an interview with Tim Cook last weekend. Mr. Cook is the person who took Steve Jobs' place as the CEO of the Apple Corporation, known simply as Apple. Apple is the richest company in the world, now worth over 2 trillion dollars, and most that value is due to Jobs' genius.

As you look at the state of our nation today, what do you see? The Bible says, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" (Ps. 33:12), but this is not a popular belief in our society. However, it's the only way our nation can flourish. Further support for this truth is found in Proverbs 14:34, "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people." Abandoning the Lord leads to disgrace and the loss of His blessings.

Corporate world shows efficiency can be done

The line started at Fike High School in Wilson, worked down Ward Boulevard, then turned down Nash Street and ran almost all the way to Barton College. It was for COVID-19 vaccines for senior citizens.
I read several news stories and posts on social media. Many of those in line commented about how grateful they were to get the vaccine.

A CLEAN SWEEP

GREENSBORO -- The North Carolina Wesleyan College men's basketball team completed its weekend sweep of rival Greensboro College by rallying from 13 points down to win 82-78 on the road Sunday afternoon.
Senior Damon McDowell capped off his stellar weekend by scoring 17 points in this one to lead the Bishops. He scored 39 in the home win last Friday.

The Town of Nashville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is partnering with Nash County Recreation and Senior Services to host a drive-thru light show experience tonight, January 28th.
"Lights of Winter Wonderland" will be held on January 28 from 6 until 8 p.m. in the parking lot of the Claude Mayo Administration Building.
