ROCKY MOUNT -- Where the competitive pinwheel of balance eventually stops come may is anybody's guess in the Big East Conference track and field scene.
That's because the restructured Big East now features traditional powers and holdovers Franklinton, Rocky Mount, Northern Nash and Southern Nash -- along with Class 2-A newcomers Nash Central (a former Big East titan in its own right before moving to the Eastern Plains Conference four years ago), Louisburg, Bunn and Roanoke Rapids.

BUNN -- Even though this is his first season as Nash Central's girls soccer coach, Micah Faile offered some sage advice late in the first half of the Lady Bulldogs' Big East Conference showdown on the road Tuesday against the Bunn Ladycats.
Central had controlled the majority of the action, but the homestanding Ladycats proved to be stingy in their final line of defense -- not to mention the fact that a handful of the Lady Bulldogs' point-blank attempts sailed either wide or high.

RED OAK -- A pair of expected Big East Conference aces met Monday night in an early-season pecking order showdown.
The Big East crown is up for grabs this spring after perennial powers Wilson Hunt and Wilson Fike left the league following the latest realignment by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.

NORTHERN NASH'S INDIYA SPOONER

NASH COUNTY -- Four Nash County standouts have earned spots on the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association's All-District 3 Team.
Making the All-District 3 Girls list was Rocky Mount's Dynamic Duo of Dee Graham and Caroline Thiel -- juniors who have been stars since they first set foot on the RMHS campus as potential-rich freshmen.

NCWC\'S DRIFTON PADGETT

ROCKY MOUNT -- The North Carolina Wesleyan College baseball team dropped two hard-luck games to USA South West Division rival LaGrange College (Ga.) in a cross-divisional matchup on Sunday afternoon at Bauer Field on the NCWC campus.
LaGrange rallied from a three-run deficit to defeat the Bishops 12-9 in game one and then squeaked out a 2-1 pitcher's duel over Wesleyan in game two.
