ROCKY MOUNT - Edwin Braxton Poythress, age 89, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021. Born in Vance County on December 22, 1931, he was the son of the late Cyrus Thomas Poythress and Osceola Young Williams (Poythress) King. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Janet Abbott Poythress; his sisters, Irene Fenner Poythress, Zera Poythress; his brothers, Marion Thomas Poythress, George Madison Poythress and William Young "Bill" Poythress.

Edwin is survived by his daughters, Patricia Shumack (Don) of Nashville and Diana Zwilling (Gregg) of Wake Forest; his son, Michael Poythress (Deborah) of Castalia; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held Sunday, October 17, 2021.
