ROCKY MOUNT - Roscoe Flemmings Speight, Sr., age 90, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023. Born in Edgecombe County on July 7, 1932, he was the son of the late Charlie Jasper Speight and Nettie Mae Eason Speight. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Pauline Speight Rocco, Cleo Speight Iovinetti, Annie B. Speight, and Dorothy Mae Speight; and his brothers, John Leland Speight, Walter Efton Speight, Charlie Bruce Speight, and Lyman Lester Speight.

Roscoe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Peggy Doris Webb Speight; his sons, Roscoe "Rocky" Speight, Jr. and wife, Lynne, Craig Speight and wife, Susan, and Jeffrey "Jeff" Speight; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 505 S. Englewood Drive, Rocky Mount with Pastor Brandon Dees and Pastor Dan Davis officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
