Joan Elizabeth Matthews, 74, passed away January 3, 2024. She was born in Johnston County to the late Kenneth Green and Mary Lyner. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Roger Matthews; sister Brenda Newsome.

Joan is survived by her daughters Tammy Carr (Allan), Joanie Summers, Lori Russ (Blake) and Shari Brown (Greg); 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters Joy Newsome (Henry) and Denise Lorenzo (Tony); brother Dan Green (Sherri); special sister Sue Mitchell; many nieces, nephews and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church.
