ROCKY MOUNT- Jean M. Joyner, age 95, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024. Born in Edgecombe County on September 1, 1928, she was the daughter of the late J.L. Mears and Lessie Daughtridge Mears. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jake Joyner; her son, Van Joyner; her sister, Mary Jo Pennington; and her brothers, J.D. Mears, Bob Mears, and Dan Mears.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Drake, of New Bern, Sue Ellen Battle (Bruce), of Raleigh; her son, Jeff Joyner (Robin), of Rocky Mount; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Faye Southerland (Bob), of Raleigh.
A graveside service was held March 12, 2024 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with Rev. Charles Taylor officiating.
