JAMES VINCENT McDEVITT, JR.
ROCKY MOUNT-James Vincent McDevitt, Jr., better known as (Capt. Jim), 73, died Monday, September 4, 2006. He was born June 18, 1933 in Norfolk, Virginia, son of the late James V. McDevitt, Sr. and Mary Hopkins McDevitt.

He is survived by his wife, Joanna Wade McDevitt; son, Sean McDevitt, daughters, Leslie McDevitt and Ashley McDevitt; two grandsons; and sister, Marjorie Streicher; sister in law, Susan Wilson and husband Doug; brothers in law, Robert Wade and wife Kathy and Bill Wade; mother in law, Frances B. Wade and several other nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2006 at Lakeside Baptist Church with Dr. Jody Wright, Dr. Gaylord Leyman and Rev. Elizabeth Edwards officiating.

The family will receive friends at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night and other times at the home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the James McDevitt Basic Skills Scholarship, ECC Foundation, 209 Wilson St., Tarboro, NC 27886 or to Lakeside Baptist Church 1501 Sunset Ave. Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
