ROCKY MOUNT - Doris Marie Medlin Matthews, 81, passed away, Tuesday, December 1, 2009. She was born September 15, 1928 in Nash County. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Vera Batchelor Medlin.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John I. Matthews, four brothers, James, Carl, Horace and John Gray Medlin, two sisters, Catherine Hendricks and Eunice Green.
Survivors include her son, Rodney Matthews and wife Annette of Nashville, a brother, Bill Medlin of Nashville, two sisters, Mattie Ruth Driver of Spring Hope and Jean Matthews of Nashville and two grandchildren.
Visitation was Thursday, December 3, 2009 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Funeral Service was Friday, December 4, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church with Dr. James M. Rogerson and Rev. Randy Medlin officiating. Burial followed at the Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church at 1779 Mt. Zion Church Rd. Nashville, NC 27856.
