Spring Hope may demo community center

SPRING HOPE - The town's long-unused community building may be too far gone in mold and moisture issues to save, so town leaders are looking into costs for demolition while considering other uses for the land.
Andrew DeIonno, Town Manager, went over the results of an engineering report recently done on the property, located at 104 Community Street and on the same triangular 0.84-acre parcel of town-owned land occupied by the Spring Hope Historical Museum.

Farmland preservation is urged in Nash County

SANDY CROSS - Nash County needs to conserve its farmland, help and recognize its farmers, and needs to do it before Nash ends up like Wake County: those were concerns heard at the fourth Legislative and Elected Officials Appreciation Breakfast.
Sponsored by the Nash County Farm Bureau and held inside a neat warehouse belonging to the Leggett Farming Partnership on April 10th, the event drew a large mixed crowd of farmers, cooperative extension agents, FFA students, county commissioners, college and school board leaders, state legislators and Farm Bureau personnel, among others.

Auditor compliments Nashville on audit progress

NASHVILLE - The town of Nashville is still playing some catch-up with its audit practices, but based on current practice, fiscal year 2025 should be a different story.
Hunter Wiseman, who presented the town's audit results at the April 8 town council meeting, was complimentary of Tressa Rudd, Finance Director.
"Everyone knows... that the last two fiscal year audits have been late, but Tressa and her staff have done a really good job of helping us to try to get through these audits and I think this puts us in a really good position for fiscal year 2025 to have an on-time audit," Wiseman said.

Kent leaves the teenage hoodlum years behind, but not me

Our son Kent just turned 20 and left those teenage hoodlum years in a cloud of dust. He was never much of a miscreant, but he and his brother Lowell did things like try to talk me into letting them build a moonshine still once.
We are now down to one teenager at our house: Lowell. And that kid, the one I used to call The Spare when he was acting up, becomes an adult in just a couple of weeks. Times are changing.

Things that truely make a town your home
Things that truely make a town your home

I'm constantly looking at the calendar these days in complete denial that we're quickly approaching the month of May. I recall being warned how fast time will fly by with every birthday. Nothing prepares us for time slipping by so fast you're confused as to which holiday is next!
May is coming at us fast which means the Blooming Festival is breathing down the necks of those of us who plan for months for the big event. Many of us are, I guess what you consider, veterans of the planning process.

It's indeed time for Nash County to explore launching a TNR program

To the editor: I am writing in reference to an editorial titled "Nash County desperately needs a cat TNR program," printed in the April 10, 2025 edition. I agree totally with this article. If you are not familiar with the TNR program, it's a Trap, Neuter and Release program, which would in itself slow down and evidently stop the overpopulation we have in Nash County.

Easter story provides hope through failure
Easter story provides hope through failure

The Easter Story is a story of hope. In spite of the trials that Christians face, we always have hope because of what happened at Easter.
No one understood the hope that the Cross offers more than the Apostle Peter. He was one of Christ's most trusted disciples and often served as spokesman for the group. Yet, when Christ told his disciples that they would scatter like sheep at the first sign of trouble, Peter defiantly declared, "Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will". (Matthew 26:33)

Intersections: God and Life

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith--that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
