ROCKY MOUNT - Mary Frances Ringland Callahan, 82, died Saturday, May 27, 2006. She was born December 17, 1923 in Lawrence, Massachussetts, daughter of the late James and Mary Callahan Ringland. Mrs. Callahan was also preceded in death by a brother, John Ringland and a sister, Theresa McKenna.
Minnie Deola Lancaster Bunn, 99 died on May 23, 2006 at her home, Carolina House in Morehead City, North Carolina. She was born in Louisburg, North Carolina on January 3, 1907 to the late June Lancaster Bunn and Hattie Pierce Bunn. She graduated from Nashville High School and Louisburg College with a degree in Home Economics. Mrs. Bunn resided for over 75 years in Nashville, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Andrew David 'Pete' Bunn and her beloved daughter and only child, June Bunn Jones.
One of the most exciting things to happen in Nashville in years took place in one of the least likely locations last Thursday — a public hearing.

The Da Vinci Code? I put a question mark, because so many Christians are questioning their faith based n this pack of lies that has been repeated for hundreds of years. Of course, those who attack Christianity on a daily basis are having a field day. Mr. Brown, who relies on many old erroneous sources, will make in excess of one hundred million dollars. A tidy sum, supported by those who don't have enough faith in their own core, and religious values.
Two Nashville students were named to Appalachian State University's Dean's List for the Spring 2006 semester.
Erin Delayne Swiger graduated with a Bachelors in Applied Science in Chemistry from Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina in May 2006, where in 2004 she received a general chemistry award for the highest average in the general chemistry sequence, and is scheduled to attend the honors convocation to receive the American Institute of Chemists/NC Foundation award.
Thirteen Nash-Rocky Mount seniors were recently named as recipients of the prestigious North Carolina Teaching Fellows Award or alternates. All students completed a rigorous application and interview process and were recognized by the NRMS Board of Education for their excellent performance.
The following local students graduated from Gardner-Webb University during its 2006 Spring Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 13th.

An announcement Thursday night spawned a round of applause from Nashville citizens as Mayor Pro Tem Frank Wright announced a new location for Nashville's Library. "The council has conferred and developed a consensus that based upon the present expressed desires and stated wishes of library supporters that the proposed site for the library should be in the majority of Joyner's Grocery," Wright said on behalf of Mayor Warren Evans.

Rocky Mount's Board recently approved a five percent sewer increase, which will in turn affect the Town of Nashville's rate.
Nashville writer Dawn Wilson was honored by the North Carolina Poetry Society April 29 for award-winning poetry published in "Pinesong 2006." She was invited to read her poem, "Learning English in Four-Letter Words" during the award presentation at the Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities in Southern Pines.
Colonel Joel P. Kane, USMC will be the featured speaker at this year's Memorial Day Services on Sunday, May 28 at Forest Hill Cemetery in Nashville.
Nashville's Town Council will hold a public hearing on Thursday, May 25 at 6 p.m. to receive public comments on whether or not the town should accept appropriation of funds from the USDA. The meeting will be held in council chambers at 501 S. Barnes Street.

A typical Mother's Day celebration for Rocky Mount resident Elaine Swanson involves going out to a nice restaurant with her two children, Sherry and Bobby Layton. But this year, Swanson had to give up that celebration as she said goodbye to Sherry, the younger of the two on Friday, May 12 for the 31-year-old's first tour of duty in Iraq.
Avis S. Cooke, 79, of Pemberton Borough, died May 18, 2006 at Virtua Hospital, Mount Holly.
Larry M. Dickens, 55, died Monday, May 8, 2006, at his home in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He was born on March 21, 1951, in Oak Ridge to the late Milton M. Dickens and Peggy O'Neil Stuart of Oak Ridge.
